Obsolescence Management Awareness Course

Introduction

This course would suit someone who needs a broad understanding of what Obsolescence Management is and how it affects product/systems
lifecycle. It’s awareness-level – good if you want exposure rather than a
full qualification and don’t need the formal IIOM credential.

An Obsolescence Management Awareness Course based on the endorsed 3 day AIIOM short course, but without the exam or IIOM certification. This course runs concurrently with the IIOM endorsed course and therefore the dates are the same.

Dates:

Cost: £950 +vat

No exam, no IIOM certification. The awareness course does not lead to Associate level with IIOM.

If you would like to discuss alternative dates please get in touch.

Course Overview

This course assumes no prior knowledge or experience in the field of Obsolescence Management, or Engineering in general. It is expected that students will have pass grades at GCSE (or international equivalent) in Maths and English.
The course will be delivered in English.
No pre-course background reading is required.
The course will be administered online via a series of incremental modules delivered over 3 days and facilitated by a highly experienced IIOM endorsed trainer. The instructor will encourage attendees to contribute to the course through facilitated class discussions which do not require prior knowledge of Obsolescence Management. In addition, there will be practical exercises and illustrative examples. This course is for awareness only, no exam, no IIOM certification. The awareness course does not lead to Associate level with IIOM. Please book the IIOM Certificate Training course if you want a formal credential (Associate Level IIOM membership).

Course Structure and Content

The course will take place over 3 days which will include the final examination. The 11 Modules are each of approximately 1 hour duration with some having class exercises which may extend the sessions. There are breaks in between each session. There will be no formal ‘home-work’ during the course, but candidates will be encouraged to review the day’s presentations.
The course is structured around answering a series of questions which a person new to the subject might ask. These are:

Module 1 – Introduction – Why am I here?
Module 2 – What is Obsolescence? Why bother doing anything about it?
Module 3 – What Causes Obsolescence?
Module 4 – Mitigations and Resolutions – What can we do to solve Obsolescence issues?
Module 5 – The Wonderful World of Counterfeits – How obsolescence encourages the sale of counterfeit components and what can be done to avoid them.
Module 6 – Strategies – ‘What we are going to do and why we are going to do it?’
Module 7 – Process – How we are going to do it?
Module 8 – Software Obsolescence – How it arises and what can we do about it?
Module 9 – Obsolescence Management Plan – How are we going to construct it?
Module 10 – Contracting – Can we get someone else to do the hard work for us?
Module 11 – Justification – How can we show that we are cost-effective?

Flexibility With You In Mind

Now that we’ve put in the hard work in making these available to anyone, anywhere in the world, it means that it makes life easier for you to attend. We no longer have to arrange and book accommodation so we are no longer tied into fixed dates months in advance. If you are interested in attending a course, but are unable to make the advertised dates, please contact us to discuss alternative dates. We can also arrange courses per company if you have several attendees and would like a more private setting. Please contact us for more details and to discuss your requirements.
