What Is NATO Codification?
The NATO Codification System (NCS) is the internationally recognised system used by NATO nations to identify, classify and manage items of supply.
Each item is assigned a unique NATO Stock Number, creating a consistent method of identification across defence procurement, logistics, inventory management and lifecycle support.
For organisations supplying equipment or spare parts into the UK Ministry of Defence supply chain, NATO Codification may form part of the contractual procurement requirement.
Supporting UK NCB
The UK NCB is responsible for NATO Codification within the United Kingdom and manages the UK Codification Support Information System (CSIS).
CSIS contains more than five million NSN records covering equipment used by the UK Armed Forces.
CMCA(UK)’s codification team works on behalf of UK NCB to create, validate and maintain NSN records accurately and efficiently.
